The Hatters aim to get back to winning ways when they face Mansfield Town in Women’s FA Cup first round action this Sunday.

The Ladies progressed to the first round proper of the Women’s FA Cup a fortnight ago when they defeated Milton Keynes Women 5-1 away at Bedford Town.

Should the Ladies reach the second round, it will be the the third consecutive year in doing so.

Last season’s edition saw the Town’s memorable FA Cup campaign come to an end in the third round at the hands of Championship side Portsmouth.

The opposition

Mansfield Town play their football in the fifth-tier of the women’s game. They currently sit eighth place in the East Midlands Women’s Regional Football League Premier Division.

The Stags are only two games into their league season, winning one and losing the other.

Andi Bell’s side go into the FA Cup first round tie on good form, scoring 11 in their previous two, most recently defeating Newark Town 8-1 in the Nottinghamshire County Cup.

Mansfield will be the first tier-five opposition the Ladies have faced since May, when they comfortably defeated Watford Ladies Development 6-1 away from home on the final day of the season.

Words from the gaffer

When asked about whether the tie will be an opportunity for rotation, Myles Maddix said: “The squad is big, the squad will be used throughout the season. I want to reiterate to every player that we’re only five league games into the season, so every player will have their role to play at some stage.

“But, we also take this competition very seriously, we want to progress in the FA Cup and earn the benefits that come alongside it. We’ve looked at where we can improve during the week and again, the opportunities are always there for people who stand up and show up and prove that they want to take it.”

Back the Town at Barton

The Ladies need your backing as they look to advance to the second round and embark on another FA Cup run.

Kick-off for Sunday’s match at Barton Rovers’ Sharpenhoe Road ground is at 2pm, with tickets available on the day. Payment is via cash only at the turnstiles, priced at £5 adults and just £1 children.
