The Ladies extended their unbeaten streak to eight games after an entertaining 4-3 victory over AFC Sudbury on Sunday afternoon.
After controlling the opening stages, the hosts took the lead with ten minutes played. Jess Allen was slipped in behind the Town’s defence and cooly finished into the bottom left corner.
After responding well to going behind, Natalia Makowska drew the Town level. Emily Wilson broke free down the right hand side and delivered the ball into the feet of Makowska, who with her back to goal, finished superbly past Peachey.
The Town were adding the pressure onto the Sudbury defence and they were finally rewarded for their efforts. Some determined work from Amy McLean saw her steal the ball in the Suds’ area and she showed great composure to slot the ball into the far corner to give the Town a 2-1 lead heading into the final five minutes of the half.
Just moments later, McLean had a golden opportunity to net her second brace of the week. She found herself one-on-one, but was thwarted by Peachey who made the crucial block.
In the third minute of additional time at the end of the first half, Makowska netted her second of the afternoon. Amber Leighton’s clever flick set the pacey forward through on goal and a deft touch from Makowska lobbed Peachey to give her side a two-goal lead at the break.
Similar to the first, Sudbury were on top in the opening minutes of the second half. A wonder save from Sarah Hudson saw her claw Slater’s effort away from the top right corner.
The hosts were awarded a penalty on the hour. Tanya Blacksley’s foul inside the area, left the referee with no choice but to point to the spot. Amy-Leigh Abrehart stood up and finished into the bottom left corner.
The Town were quick to restore their two-goal lead. It is certainly one that Peachey won’t want to watch back, as she completely miskicks the ball, leaving Emily Wilson to capitalise and finish into an empty net.
But, the two-goal lead soon disappeared. An inswinging corner was powerfully headed past Hudson by Slater, leaving the Town with 15 minutes to hold onto their lead.
And hold on they did. The last action of the afternoon was a Sudbury free-kick on the edge of the Town penalty area, but it was blazed high over the bar, meaning the Ladies secure their third-straight league victory.
