Striker Joe Gbodé has completed a deadline day move to Kenilworth Road from League Two leaders Gillingham.

The 20-year-old graduated from the Priestfield academy and made his debut as a 16-year-old in an FA Cup tie in November 2021.

He earned experience in loan spells at Margate, Folkestone, Hastings, Maidstone and Aveley but broke into the Gills squad last season.

Gbodé scored his first goal for the Kent club against Notts County in February this year and scored twice in the final two games of the season against Wimbledon and Swindon.

He played against us during our pre-season friendly in July has been a regular for the Gills so far this season, and scored an injury-time equaliser in their 1-1 draw at Tranmere.

On our newest recruit, manager Matt Bloomfield said: “Joe’s a young man who we have kept tabs on since the end of last season and who we played against this pre-season.

“I know the managerial team at Gillingham very well and they have had nothing but good things to say about Joe’s talent and how high is ceiling is.

“He’s one for the future but we’re looking forward to having him in and around the group.”

Joe said: “I’m delighted to be here, it’s a great move for me and I can’t wait to get started.

“The facilities are unbelievable and it’s a well-run club with a good manager, and there are a lot of top strikers I can learn from.

“I’m quite quick, I like to dribble – and score, of course. My stats might not say that but I think I can thrive in this environment.

“Kenilworth Road is an unbelievable place; the stands are close to the pitch and that gives you that extra boost playing at home.

“It’s a big family here and I’m delighted to be here.”

Welcome to Luton, Joe!
