Home resilience needed on the road

Boss hopes recent solid home form can be replicated at Leeds on Wednesday

Rob Edwards is under no illusions how tough Wednesday’s trip to Leeds United will be as the Town aim to make it back-to-back wins in the Championship following Saturday’s win over Hull.

Daniel Farke’s Leeds have won five of their past seven games in the second tier and have lost just twice all season as they look to earn promotion to the Premier League after losing in last season’s play-off final.

“They’re probably the best team [in the division]. They have some great individuals and they’re playing with a lot of confidence,” said Edwards at his Tuesday pre-match press call.

“It’s going to be a really good challenge and we’ve got to embrace it and enjoy it. They’ll be a good atmosphere and we’re really looking forward to it.”

The Whites rose to the Championship’s summit after coming out on top in a seven-goal thriller at Swansea on Sunday, a match Edwards watched.

“It was a thrilling game between two good teams,” he said. “Leeds create a lot of chances and don’t give much away at the other end. It was a high-scoring affair, but in general they don’t give much away and gave a lot of good players at the top end of the pitch. They play with a real clarity so we know how difficult it is going to be.

“However, we’ve shown a resilience on Saturday, with that desire and work ethic and we’re going to have to show that in abundance on Wednesday.”

The Hatters head to Elland Road looking to end a run of four straight defeats on the road and become the first Luton teams since 1961 to win in the league at the Yorkshire venue.

On the Town’s recent away record, Edwards said: “I think before the last couple [of away games] I wasn’t so concerned – but since we’ve allowed one or two disappointments to affect us.

“The resilience we’ve shown in the past couple of home games could be an asset on Wednesday and that is something we’ve spoken about in the lead up to this game.

“Things don’t always go your way; conceding the first goal or not keeping a clean sheet, so, if we have to deal with that, we need to keep our heads up, fight, have the right attitude, and get back in the game. That’s what we’re looking for.”
