HATTERS CLAP FOR MARY, NHS HEROES AND ESPECIALLY OUR FRIENDS AT THE L&D HOSPITAL

Everyone at Luton Town Football Club has been saddened to learn of the tragic death of a nurse at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital, Mary Agyeiwaa Agyapong, who passed away on Sunday as a result of the Coronavirus.

Mary was 28 years old, and expecting a baby. Thankfully the child – a daughter who has been named Mary – survived, but understandably the staff at the L&D have been severely affected at the loss of one of their colleagues in such tragic circumstances.

As a supporter of the Friends of the L&D charity, it goes without saying that our heroes at the hospital are dealing with some extraordinary circumstances at the moment, without the added grief of losing a friend too.

We wanted to show solidarity with those, like Mary, who are working tirelessly and putting their lives at risk to try to keep us well.

So earlier today, people from across the football club – directors, staff, players and volunteers – came together on Zoom to listen as one to the Bill Withers song ‘Somebody to Lean On’ and hold our own period of applause from home for our NHS heroes.

To Mary, your family and all who knew you at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital, this is for you. Thank you.
