Matt Bloomfield says that hard work and honesty will form the foundation of how his Luton Town team plays.

Asked about his preferred style of play, the former Wycombe manager said: “Hard work has to be the cornerstone of any football club. It has to be the cornerstone of anything you do in life – hard work and a team ethos. The team has to come first in anything we do.

“I expect my group to be honest. Absolutely. We have to be honest with each other and how we go about our work, and the playing style will evolve.

“I'm not looking to come in and rip everything up because there's been some fantastic stuff that's been done here over the previous few managers, and Rob's done an incredible job.

“So we're not looking to rip anything up, but we're certainly trying to bring in a freshness and energy. We’ll try to implement some principles that we've been building ourselves as a coaching unit, trying to improve the group and build some results as we go.”

He added: “I see it as a very good squad here, [which has] obviously had a bit of a tough time this season, but in my opinion, there’s a lot of mitigating circumstances for that, coming off the relegation last year and there's been a lot of emotional toil from some instances around the club that everybody's had to deal with.

“I think that Rob did an incredible job here and I have to pay tribute to him for the job he did. To get the club into the Premier League and fight so hard for survival, it was just an incredible job.

“So I'm just really excited to get to work with the players. I feel like I know a lot of them fairly well, but to really get to know them and see if we can see if we can get to work, which we're excited about.”

With the January transfer window open, there is the possibility of further additions to the squad, with Lamine Fanne, Christ Makosso and Izzy Jones having already arrived this month.

“I think that there's obviously a couple of injuries that we're carrying at the moment and some players were looking forward to hopefully welcoming back soon,” said Bloomfield.

“It’s a group that's been performing to a good degree recently and have been unfortunate not to pick up more points and more results in my opinion, and the stats back that up.

“I'll be speaking to the players about that this morning, but there's a little bit of wriggle room in January transfer window, and adding a little bit of freshness along the way would possibly be a good idea as well.

“So first and foremost, these are our players and we want to work with the group we've got. If there's any wriggle room around it, then we'll look to do so.”
