The Hatters’ Under-21s go in search of a place in the quarter-finals of the Premier League Cup when they travel to Nottingham Forest on Friday night.
After a superb 3-0 win over Brighton and Hove Albion in their final group stage fixture last month, Alex Lawless’ side face Forest at the Loughborough University Stadium (kick-off 7pm) in the last-16.
“After the results we achieved against Brighton in the group phase we’ve got lots of self-belief and, going into a one-off game, we’re confident,” said Lawless.
“We knew that our last game against Brighton was effectively a knock-out game – we had to win or we would be eliminated – so Friday won’t feel any different.
“We’ve had some good preparation with the trip to Glasgow to face Rangers and we’ve included a number of under-18s who have developed a real winning mentality under Joe Deeney.
“So it’s an incredible carrot for the lads to get through but Forest are certainly no chumps. They won their group and look a strong, aggressive side who are hard to break down.
“But while it’s a fabulous achievement to get through to this stage, we’re not going there thinking we’re just happy to be there – that’s not our mindset. We’re definitely going there looking to progress again.”
Town supporters wishing to watch the under-21s at Loughborough, tickets must be purchased in advance through Nottingham Forest.
