Manager Matt Bloomfield has confirmed that Alfie Doughty will miss the remaining five games of the season with a hamstring injury sustained in the midweek draw at Stoke.
The left wing-back limped off during the first half of the game in Stoke, and will now have to watch the remainder of the Sky Bet Championship season from the sidelines.
“Alfie is out for the season unfortunately, he’s done his hamstring,” said Bloomfield. “He was working his way back to full fitness and was very good against Leeds on Saturday. It’s such a shame we’ve lost him for the season, but we have to adjust.”
The manager revealed that he is waiting on the fitness of a couple of other players suffering with illness as he prepares for the visit of Blackburn Rovers to Kenilworth Road tomorrow.
Bloomfield also spoke of supporting Elijah Adebayo through his recovery from an operation to his ACL, having suffered the same injury himself during his playing days.
“It’s a long road back, but he seems in good spirits and he’s had his operation, which has been a success,” said Bloomfield on Adebayo. “All the little stages as you go along, I found it nice to tick them off because without achieving one, you can’t move onto the next. Eli is a hard worker and he sounds very strong, so I can’t wait to see him progress along his journey and we can have him back.”
