Matt Bloomfield has strengthened his squad ahead of the new season with the signing of left-sided defender Cohen Bramall.

Cohen, who can operate at left-back or at wing-back arrives at Kenilworth Road as a free agent following his release from Portsmouth in the summer.

The 29-year-old began his career in non-league football in the north west, moving to Arsenal in 2017 before spells at Colchester, Lincoln, Rotherham and, most recently, Pompey.

On his ninth new recruit of the summer, Matt Bloomfield said: “Cohen’s been a real solid performer at this level and above for a number of years now.

“He’s very athletic, extremely quick and has a great left foot. He’ll get up and down the flank and give us really good options in the wide left positions.

“We believe his profile and experience in this league will mean he’ll play an important role in the squad. It’s an area of the pitch we knew we had to look at and in Cohen we have someone whose experience and know-how of the level – and athletic profile – will provide a good addition to our group.”

Cohen said: “As soon as I heard of the interest I wanted to come to Luton, so I’m glad to get it sorted in the end and I’m really looking forward to getting my season started.

“I’ve missed out on pre-season with the squad, but I think I’ll adapt really quick. I’m a fit lad and my game is built around being athletic and just being an engine, so I’m not too worried about my fitness.

“Now it’s a question of meeting the boys - meeting the family here - getting my head down and kicking on.”

The story so far

Having been raised in Crewe, Cohen started playing for Kidsgrove Athletic in 2010 before taking in move to host of clubs for the next six years.

Having played part-time with Nantwich, Market Drayton, Newcastle Town and Hednesford, he was spotted by Arsenal and joined the Gunners in January 2017.

Cohen was a regular in the under-23 squad at Emirates Stadium before getting his first taste of senior football while on loan at Birmingham in 2017/18.

His time in North London came to an end in the summer of 2019 where he went onto sign for League Two Colchester. After a season-and-a-half and 57 appearances he alerted the attention of sides higher up the pyramid and in February 2021 Cohen moved to Lincoln.

Again he took to League One, and in 2022/23 he joined Rotherham where he made 81 appearances in all competitions across two seasons with the Milles in the Championship.

Following their relegation to League One Cohen made the move to Portsmouth on a short-term deal in January this year, playing nine times in helping Pompey retain their Championship status.

Welcome to the Luton Town family, Cohen!
