One of our greatest free transfers of all-time has committed his future to Luton Town.
Player of the year for the past two seasons, Jordan Clark has put pen to paper on a new long-term contract to keep him at Kenilworth Road.
The 32-year-old hit a career-best 13 goals last term from midfield and surpassed 200 appearances in Hatters colours having joined in the summer of 2020 from Accrington Stanley.
Manager Jack Wilshere said: “Getting this one over the line is a massive deal for us as a club. It was one of my biggest priorities this summer.
“Clicker’s performances on the pitch speak for themselves. His goals, assists and quality on the ball mean we always want him out there for as long as we can, because he makes things happen and produces big moments.
“He’s been our talisman on so many occasions and a vital part of Luton Town’s story for so many years now. He knows what it takes to achieve huge things with this club, so having him here in our environment to drive standards every day, create the culture we want and help us work towards more success is absolutely vital.
“We know what he means to the supporters and this news will give them a close season boost, just as it does everyone at the club. We all love Clicker as much as they do. He’s a top player and a top person, and we are so glad to have him with us for the long term.”
After finalising his new deal, the man known to all at the club simply by his nickname said: “I’m so happy to get this sorted. I might be a Yorkshireman, but I’m an adopted Lutonian and I’ve made my home here, it feels like my club.
“The supporters and the people who work here have made me feel that way and I couldn’t leave until I help get this club back into the Championship.
“We’ve achieved so much in the six years since Nathan sold me the dream. We lived it with Rob and I know that with the great work the gaffer and the staff are doing, there is more to come. The Trophy win at Wembley is just the beginning.
“We need to take the standards we set from the back end of last season and take them to another level, starting on day one of pre-season, so we can have some more amazing memories with this special club.”
The story so far
Clicker began his career at hometown club Barnsley and enjoyed loan spells with Chesterfield, Scunthorpe and Hyde – playing against the Hatters in the National League – before moving to Shrewsbury in 2014.
He won promotion and netted five times in 59 appearances over two years in Shropshire before moving in the summer of 2016 to Accrington, where he scored 29 times in 191 games.
After joining the Town during the lockdown summer of 2020, he soon became a regular and fans’ favourite after making his debut in the Carabao Cup win over Norwich. He soon scored his first goal for the Hatters in his second appearance – the winner against Reading in the second round of the League Cup.
He scored twice more and laid on three goals in his second campaign in 2021/22 as the Hatters reached the Championship play-offs, and the following season saw him play a key role as the Town went one better.
Clicker opened the scoring in play-off final at Wembley against Coventry with one of the most famous goals in the club’s history, and then found the target in the penalty shootout as the Hatters secured promotion to the Premier League.
Injury in pre-season meant Clicker had to wait to make his first appearance in 2023/24, but there was no better place to play his first game in the top-flight when coming on as a substitute at Old Trafford against Manchester United in October.
He went onto play a total of 23 times in the Premier League, scoring once in the victory over Bournemouth and two stunners in an FA Cup fifth round defeat to Manchester City.
He was a regular in the Town side once more in 2024/25 in the Championship and his performances from midfield were rewarded with four end-of-season awards, including both the Luton Town Supporters’ Trust and Loyal Luton Supporters’ Club player of the year awards, the players’ player of the year and goal of the season for his stunning volley at Cardiff.
It was the same again in 2025/26 as he once again walked away with both fan groups’ player of the year and players’ player awards after a fine season that saw him hit 13 goals, while helping the Town win at Wembley again, this time in the Vertu Trophy.
Now on 220 club appearances and just four away from 500 in his career overall, the knowledge that he will reach his next major milestone in a Luton shirt is news to celebrate for all Hatters.
