The wing-back, who was anxiously watching on as the penalty kicks were taken admitted the feeling of play-off victory ‘hadn’t sunk in’ as he began to recount the feeling of the just how many different emotions he has been through in one game of football.

“I don’t understand what’s going on, I think it’s a dream! This is the reason I came to this club, I saw potential and like you saw out there today, the boys just ran and ran and ran. We didn’t stop and we were relentless and it’s been like this the whole season. I just love every single one of these boys, you see what you saw today and it’s just unbelievable.”

Not only did he credit the superb efforts from the players on the pitch, Doughty was keen to pay tribute to the supporters in the stand who themselves didn’t stop all game.

“The fans have been unbelievable this season and to only get 10,000 at the Kenny and then bring 40,000 here, I don’t really get it. That’s the reason why it’s so good, more people do want to come and watch the games but unfortunately we don’t hold that capacity yet. It has been nan unbelievable season and the fans have been even better.

Watching the shoot-out? The 23-year-old was like every Luton Town fan across the world.

“I couldn’t talk I was actually physically speechless I think and I was a bag of nerves. We’ve been practicing and I had so much faith in the boys that they would pull through and they did, we didn’t miss a beat.”
