2021/22 Season Review | May

A heavy defeat on the road against league champions Fulham meant that Nathan Jones' side had to beat Reading on the final day to confirm their place in the play-offs.

Following a confident start to the match, Harry Cornick pounced on the stroke of half-time with a moment of brilliance after he stole the ball from Reading goalkeeper Orjan Nyland to put the Hatters in front.

The win means the Hatters finished sixth in the Championship on 75 points, securing their spot in the play-offs, where they would face Huddersfield Town.

Luton made a strong start to the firts leg in front of a sold-out Kenilworth Road but with one swift counter-attack, the Terriers forced the breakthrough.

Captain Sonny Bradley, ever-reliable in front of the Sky cameras, popped up with the all-important equaliser to level proceedings on the half-hour mark.

It would remain a goal apiece by the end of the 90 minutes with the sides heading back to the John Smith's Stadium just days later.

But unfortunately it will be remembered as a night of missed opportunities as Huddersfield booked their place at Wembley thanks to Jordan Rhodes' 82nd minute winner.

The 2,300 travelling supporters made themselves heard throughout the match but had to make the long trip home to Bedfordshire without a play-off final to look forward but an overwhelming feeling of pride instead.
