Luton's wonder-boy Ryan Charles aims to be Luton's top goal scorer... with a little help from Weetabix and Harry Potter. The young striker who can't stop scoring puts it down to his superstitions and his insistence on a bowl of his favourite cereal on matchdays.

"Before a game I have a set routine," he says. "I shower, eat Weetabix with warm milk and always pack my bag in exactly the same way."

And when he's chilling out on a rare free day, Charles turns to a famous boy wizard for inspiration. "I go to the movies with some of the boys now and again, but there is a lot of football so I have to rest up for the start of the week.

"The last film I saw was Harry Potter and it was pretty good, but I haven't read any of the books yet."

Even with so much football in his life there's only one thing he really wants to do in the evenings, though: "After a game I just go home and watch Match of the Day and Sky Sports."

Having taken part in a busy pre-season, Charles has loved his chance of playing with some of Luton's First Team, and scoring two goals along the way: "You can't get enough of playing with the FirstTeam really. They help you and make you play in different ways and help you get better as a footballer. It's good for the experience and makes me play better. They make you up your game."

And he knows exactly where he wants to push himself.

"This season I really want to win the league with the youth team and hopefully earn a professional contract. I want to be top scorer for the whole of Luton Town Football Club. Hopefully I can score 20 this season."

With no certainties in football, though, Charles is realistic about the future.

"In football there's ups and downs. It's good to play football all the time and that's what I really want to do. But you've got to get on with college as well because you need your education in case football doesn't work out."

With new people arriving on and off the pitch, Charles is pleased with how things are going: "The First Years have settled in really well, we all get on and as a team, we're gelling well, and that's always a good thing for the start of the season.

"It's good working with Chris Cummins. We're doing more technical work and he's got his own way of coaching. I think I'm improving more and more as a footballer."

Thanks to those bowls of Weetabix.
