REPORT: LUTON RESERVES 3-4 IPSWICH RESERVES
Sergio Hellings, a trialist from Leicester City, scored two of Luton's goals while returning midfielder Richard Langley netted the other in their 4-3 defeat at home to Ipswich Town Reserves.
Northampton Town centre-half Brett Johnson was given a second run out but came off early after picking up an injury. Bolton Wanderers midfielder Matthew Cassidy started as did Preston right-back Mike Aspin and Sheffield United forward Dean Oliver.
Langley came close on six minutes with a volley following on from a Jamie McGuinness corner.
Harry Hogarth kept the teams level with some impressive defending just minutes later.
However, Bowditch continued to press forward and put Ipswich ahead when a ball headed out by Chris Casement was volleyed in on 21 minutes.
Bowditch again found space behind the defense and drilled in shot from the left post to double the visitors lead.
HALF TIME: LUTON 0-2 IPSWICH
The Hatters pulled one back on 62 minutes when Hellings slotted the ball home following some excellent footwork from Langley.
Bowditch picked up his hat-trick in the 64th minute when he rounded keeper Marlon Beresford, allowing him to place the ball into an empty net.
Two minutes later, a well placed cross from Elliott Osborne-Ricketts found Langley who fired home.
Luton grabbed the equaliser on 84 minutes when Heelings netted a Scott Sinclair cross from outside the area.
However, Bowditch gave Ipswitch the win with another goal on 85 minutes when he again found space in the defence before shooting the ball past Beresford.
After the game hatters boss Mick Harford was in no doubt that these were some of the more impressive trialists he has seen.
He said: "Sergio scored two fantastic goals. Mike played with a lot of energy, I like his honesty, endeavor and hard work and we will probably bring him back pre-season."
