RESERVES: LUTON 3-1 SOUTHEND
Luton Town's reserves triumphed over Southend United's second string this afternoon with all three goals coming from trialists.
Andre McCollin gave Luton the lead after 30 minutes before Gavin Tomlin added to the score sheet in the 54th minute and a third goal from Brett Johnson followed a minute later.
Southend finally got themselves back in the game with a goal in the 75th minute but found it to late to catch the Hatters.
Luton's starting line-up consisted of four trialists, the three goalscorers and goalkeeper Lawrie Walker. Richard Langley was again included in the squad and was given the captain's armband for the afternoon.
The Hatters started brightly and Scott Sinclair found himself one on one with the keeper on 27 minutes after receiving a cross from Mark Farthing, and was unlucky to see his shot fall wide of the target.
Luton took the lead after an impressive counter attack run from McCollin left the Southend defence standing, giving him the space to slip the ball under Steve Collis.
Again Sinclair's attempt trickled wide after he took a shot from 20 yards in the 39th minute.
HALF TIME: LUTON 1-0 SOUTHEND
The game restarted with a different keeper for the Hatters, with another trialist Nick Jordan replacing Walker.
The Hatters were quick to go on the attack and this time it was Tomlin who found the back of the net on 54 minutes to double Luton's advantage.
A minute later the home side added another to the score sheet when a Farthing free-kick fell to Johnson, who knocked it in.
Jordan made an impressive save in the 62nd minute, to keep the Blues at bay, denying Damien Scannell after a dangerous corner had been curled into the area.
Southend continued to drive forward and that pressure eventually pulled a goal back with an Obase header fifteen minutes from time.
