Vastly experienced centre half who resigned for the Hatters nine years after leaving Kenilworth Road.
Darlington-born Alan started his career with Middlesbrough making his debut for Boro in a 3-3 draw with Liverpool in 1996.
However, with first team opportunities limited at the Riverside, Alan jumped at the chance to sign for the Hatters in September 1997 for £40,000.
After 98 appearances in Luton colours, Alan left Kenilworth Road in 2000, joining Colchester United on a free transfer.
Four years at Layer Road came and went before he spent one season-spells at Leyton Orient, NottsCounty and Boston United.
He signed for home-town team Darlington at the start of the 2007/08 season and went onto make 85 appearances for the Quakers before joining the Hatters for the second time in the summer of 2009.
