With his side sitting perched at the top of the Blue Square Bet Premier with a 100 per cent record after three games, boss Richard Money believes the Hatters are in a good place.
"We're pleased but we're not getting carried away," he told the press ahead of Tuesday night's game with Newport County at Kenilworth Road.
"I think we're in a good place right now, not in terms of position but because we have a fit squad and there are competition for places - that's the most important thing.
"I've said before if that continues then we're set to have a good season."
With Matthew Barnes-Homer also leading the way in the divisional scoring charts, the manager was pleased with not only the striker's return of five goals but the team's overall play in the first three games.
"Matthew is beginning to show everyone what he's all about," he said. "Sometimes it takes time for players to settle and things happen in their private lives. But he's free of that now and it's starting to show.
"I think any striker in our team should expect to score goals. In the past three games we've had almost 50 attempts at goal.
"The movement and creativity has been very good to see - 50 shots in that period is really quite something.
"Yes, the ratio of eight goals to 50 attempts doesn't sound great but it's about the norm and, as we expect to keep creating chances, there's always the chance that they'll be a time when we'll score a few goals. We beat Hayes & Yeading last season by scoring eight when every chance went in."
Dean Holdsworth's Newport have picked up two points from their opening three fixtures but, despite their indifferent start to life in the BSBP, Money is expecting a really tough test.
"I saw them beat Stevenage 1-0 in pre-season and that in itself shows you that they must be a good side," he said.
"They won their league last season by a country mile - and with about 10 games to spare - so that tells everyone they must be a decent outfit.
"I was impressed with what I saw of them against Stevenage and we've had them watched twice since so we know we're going to be in for a difficult game."
Money again has a fully-fit squad to choose from, bar the long-term injury to Kevin Nicholls, and with places again up for grabs, the media were keen to hear the manager's goalkeeping selection policy and the latest on the future of striker Tom Craddock.
"I think it's crucial at this stage of the season that both goalkeepers are involved," he said. "We haven't got a reserve game until the middle of September.
"We've arranged a behind closed doors game next week which will give everyone who hasn't featured as much some football.
"But there is nothing between Mark Tyler and Kevin Pilkington at the minute. Sooner or later we might have to make a decision on who plays more regularly but at this stage I'm happy to keep both of them on their toes.
"As for Tom he has apologised and apologised to the group. He accepts what he said was a bit hasty.
"There's nothing on the horizon from any club but we've had a long discussion and he's happy.
"His reaction and the reaction of the crowd at Fleetwood on Saturday said it all."
