MONEY: TOUGH BUT WE FEAR NOBODY

Posted on: Fri 26 Feb 2010

After a week's rest and recuperation following Tuesday's postponement against Histon, Hatters boss Richard Money believes his side are in for a tough test as they look to get back to winning way at Crawley Town tomorrow.

The midweek cancellation put pay to the Town's goal of bouncing back from last Saturday's defeat at home to AFC Wimbledon.

And their task of getting back into the winning groove will be a tricky one as they face Steve Evans' in-form Red Devils.

"Tough," was the one-word answer Money said after being asked what he expects from the Town's trip to the Broadfield Stadium.

"They are in good form and up until last Saturday had taken 17 points out 21.

"They are very tough own on their own patch and it will be a real hard game.

"Crawley still have Play-Off aspirations themselves and it just goes to show you don't know where you're difficult matches are going to come and tomorrow will be that's for sure."

The Sussex side might be in good form but the Hatters' away record speaks for itself.

Tomorrow the Town will be aiming for their 10th success on the road, their ninth in 11 fixtures and their ninth consecutive clean sheet.

And Money admitted that his players have realised that they don't have a divine right to just turn up and win matches in this division.

"I think the penny has finally dropped," he said. "We have to respect that there are good teams and good players in this league.

"We have to play very well to give us a good chance of winning games.

"But we're in a position now that we should hold no fears of going anywhere of playing anyone."

The enforced week off may have helped some players overcome slight knocks but, as Money revealed, the postponement of Wednesday's reserve game with Norwich has not helped the progress of those in the squad on the fringes of starting XI.

"Losing that reserve game was a real disappointment," he said. "We've got a backlog of reserve games and the crazy thing is we might have to organise our own game at this rate.

"There's been a group of 12-14 players who have had a real run of active involvement since Christmas but a group of five-to-six who have been recovering from injury who we haven't been able to get much football as we would have liked.

"That said we have got a clean bill of health but those six or so could do with a reserve game.

"Tomorrow we'll take 20 players and make sure those not involved will work hard because we will need to them to get through this tough run of fixtures.

"It's fortunate we've got such a good group to get us through this period.

"There have been one or two that have been banging on my door wondering what they need to do to get in the team.

"They'll have to be patient and work hard. I'm sure they will be needed during the congested period."

On the personnel front, Lewis Emanuel and Ryan Charles remain sidelined but Godfrey Poku and JJ O'Donnell have both returned to Kenilworth Road after being loaned to their former club St Albans City.
