Mick Harford is hoping Saturday's friendly at Hampton & Richmond Borough will give his players much needed experience of playing away from home against strong non-league side.
Hampton have lost out in the play-offs two seasons running in the Blue Square South after third and second place finishes losing out to eventual promoted sides Eastbourne Borough in 2008 and Hayes & Yeading last season.
The Beavers' Beveree Stadium has a capacity of just 3,000 and the Town manager is looking forward to seeing how his players cope in a different type of match a week before the season starts.
He said: "Over the course of pre-season the standard of our competition in our friendlies has slowly increased.
"Tuesday's match against Manchester United was a fantastic spectacle and I thought we were unlucky not to draw and even win the game given the number of chances created.
"We go to Hampton & Richmond on Saturday, and no disrespect to them, we want to take our players to a non-league ground and give them experience of playing against a very good side who have been unlucky not be promoted in the last two seasons.
"With the season starting next week at AFC Wimbledon, we need to get that winning mentality and hopefully we can start that tomorrow. It will be an interesting game."
For tomorrow's trip to the capital, Harford has to contend with a couple of niggling injuries with Ed Asafu-Adjaye doubtful with a back problem which was rectified following a hospital appointment and Liam Hatch who has a slight problem with his ankle.
He said: "Ed will be back training next week and Liam has a little ankle niggle but, apart from that, everyone is fit and well and looking sharp.
"It should be a good contest and we're looking forward testing ourselves at a tight little ground against a good team."
