Following last Monday's disappointment manager Mick Harford has to pick up his troops ahead of Saturday's trip to Barnet with just a squad of just 16 available players.

Suspension rules out Chris Martin as he serves the last game of a two match ban while Kevin Gallen and Lewis Emanuel are also unlikely to feature at Underhill with hamstring and knee injuries respectively.

And the Town boss also will be without Mark Bower who has been recalled by Bradford City and David Button who has returned to Tottenham Hotspur.

And with nothing left to play four in their remaining four fixtures Harford will look to experiment in preparation for next season.

Talking in his afternoon press conference at Kenilworth Road he said: "We're down to 16 fit players with Kevin and Lewis injured and Chris suspended.

"We're down to the bare bones but the 16 is a strong squad and we'll look to use players in various positions.

"I spoke to my coaching staff and we might do some experimenting with different systems and different variations but still try to win the game and be positive.

"We have got players who are quite flexible."

With Bower back at Valley Parade Harford was keen to express his gratitude to the on-loan centre half who made 16 appearance during his spell on-loan.

"I'd like to go on record and thank Mark for his efforts," he said.

"He's a great lad and did a fantastic job for us, giving us balance on the left-side at centre half. Hopefully he'll go on and do well for Bradford."

Despite Monday's relegation Harford revealed despite the sombre atmosphere surrounding the club, his squad still remain in good spirits.

Harford on Nicholls: "He is a magnificent influence on our squad."

He said: "The mood is doom and gloom and obviously we're very, very disappointed and shaken with what's gone on.

"But we trained on the pitch this morning and the spirit amongst the players - as always - has been fantastic and has been typified by the captain.

"He gets everyone up and at it and is a magnificent influence on our squad."

And on, Saturday's game with a Barnet side unbeaten in five games, Harford is expecting a difficult game as they face two former Town players

"It will be tough encounter," he said. "They've got a couple of ex-Luton players.

"Michael Leary is strong in midfield and obviously Paul Furlong's just passed a major landmark (scoring 200 senior goals) and he's still going strong.

"Paul's a good, honest professional and down the years has always scored goals. He's a credit to himself."
