HARFORD AHEAD OF SPIREITES

Posted on: Sun 12 Apr 2009

The Hatters go into Easter Monday's clash with Chesterfield at Kenilworth Road without leading goalscorer Chris Martin who starts the first match of a two-game suspension.

Manager Mick Harford is also sweating on the fitness of Lewis Emanuel and Kevin Gallen who came off with knee and hamstring injuries respectively during Saturday's 0-0 draw with Lincoln City.

And Harford - who had the luxury last week of a scouting mission which saw him watch both Lincoln and Chesterfield - is anticipating a different approach from the Spireites.

He said: "Chesterfield are a different kettle of fish.

"They have Jack Lester up front who can cause all kinds of problems and is probably playing at a level that he's better at.

"But they are far from a one man show and they've been on a good run of late.

"They're very solid and play with two banks of four, make it hard for you and get their full-backs forward into the danger area and get as many balls in the box as possible."

Chesterfield have two ex-Hatters in their squad in Darren Currie and Alan Goodall and one current Town player in Drew Talbot who is currently on-loan at Saltergate.

While Talbot will not feature as an agreement between the two clubs prevents the striker playing, the two former Luton players are likely to play apart in the match.

And when Harford was asked if either player had a point to prove to the club he said: "They won't say so. I would think they think they've got anything to prove."

Despite the knocks to Emanuel and Gallen the rest of the squad is fully-fit which gives an opportunity to other squad members to stake a claim in the manager's starting XI.

Harford said: "We'll have to change things round but we have had a fully-fit squad to choose from over the last two-three weeks so the players who weren't in the squad will be coming in now."

And the manager believes if they continue in the same vein of form of recent weeks then his side have a chance of picking up a vital victory.

He said: "We've got to take the Lincoln form and the Wembley form into Chesterfield and we're confident we can get the three points."
