THE OPPOSITION'S VIEW: O'DRISCOLL PRE-LUTON
Sean O'Driscoll was pleased to see his side claim a 2-0 win over the Hatters and with results elsewhere in the division also in his favour, it meant the three points took Rovers into second spot and automatic promotion is now very much in their hands with one match to go.
"We started well, which is what you want. We created some chances and we played some good football," O'Driscoll told Doncaster's official website. "The ball wouldn't go in the net, but I felt that the team kept their composure and discipline. I was pleased when the first goal finally went in - but it was difficult. The result was important and the reaction of the crowd gave us half an inkling of what was going on at Millwall.
"Luton changed the way they played after 20 minutes to go with five in the midfield and a lone striker. In the second half, they gave it a right go and we had to weather a bit of a storm without them creating a chance for most of the game. The second goal was crucial and it was nice to see it go in.
"Richard O'Kelly said to me on the sidelines that Dean Brill was either going to be useless or brill! That took the pressure off of it a little bit - but you need to create chances and we created chances all afternoon. I wouldn't say that we missed a lot; but you need to give credit to the goalkeeper. We were disciplined at the back. Young Sam Hird has come in and showed a maturity beyond his years and that was a difficult decision to make and I have said all season that if people do the right things; we'll give them an opportunity - so I'm pleased for him.
"When an opposition pack you in defence, it's sometimes the scraps that get you the goals. It was a good header by Mark and another good save. Matt was on hand just to tap it in. Mark was a threat all afternoon; so it was nice to see him get a goal from close in; and I am pleased for him. I was critical of him last week but he showed today that he gets his head down and works hard. He's a handful for the opposition right-back and sometimes the whole of the back four. He's done a shift for the team and done well."
"Brian Stock came off after suffering a nasty kick and his foot is quite swollen. He'll be walking away on crutches this evening and a brace; so we will have to wait and see."
"If someone had said that there is a chance that you will be going into the final game of the season with a chance of automatic promotion - you wouldn't really have sniffed at it. If you said that you would be finishing the season in the Play-Offs; then I probably would have said that we have a strong enough side to go up automatically. This season has been up-and-down and we have been muted in our celebrations today because I think that everybody knows that this will be a big week this week and a big weekend next weekend."
