Sam Parkin will miss the visit to his former club Swindon Town.

The striker aggravated his ongoing ankle problem during the 2-1 win over Dagenham & Redbridge in midweek.

Parkin went for a scan on the injury, but Club physiotherapist Jon Edmondson is confident that the problem is not serious.

However, for Parkin, it will be a bitter disappointment to miss the game against his former club, where he made over 120 appearances in four years.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Hatters boss Kevin Blackwell said: "He has gone for a scan and the results come back this afternoon.

"The physio is confident that nothing is broken, but because of the major surgery he has had on that leg, it could be traumatisation on the bone, coming from pounding on hard ground all the time.

"We are hoping that is the case because with a little bit of rest, he could be back with us in two to three weeks.

"It is the same ankle and I think everyone knows that leg has been broken twice - in the same place - and that is partly the problem.

"Apart from the spell he had last season, I don't think Sam has played properly for two years. He has come through a very strenuous pre-season so the leg has had to take some testing.

"Sam is bitterly disappointed, because it looked as if he would be getting fit, and with Swindon on the horizon, he has gone back to square one slightly. However the prognosis is that it should be two to three weeks."

However there was some good news for Blackwell concerning the return to fitness of David Bell, who has been out of action since the pre-season win over Stevenage.

The former Rushden midfielder picked up a calf strain in the game at Broadhall Way, but has returned to training this week.

Blackwell continued: "David trained on Tuesday but was not fit for the Dagenham match. He came through a strenuous session this morning and had a running programme to do afterwards, which he has come through.

"As long as we don't get any set-backs from that then he will be added to the squad for Saturday."

That means, Blackwell will have a real selection problem for the trip to the County Ground.

A number of impressive performances against Dagenham have meant a few players are already knocking of Blackwell's door for a start at Swindon.

"It's nice to know that the squad can compete. I think that was what Tuesday was all about - finding out how good we are from one to 22.

"I believe we have a squad of players where anyone can be in the first team and that is a really good feeling as a manager.

"I think what Tuesday night has done is given the players who started on Saturday against Hartlepool a warning that they can not sit on their laurels."
