Mike Newell was pleased with the all round display that took Luton back to the top of the table.

"We worked hard for the win," stated Newell. "It is never as easy as the league positions suggests, I felt we should have been more than one up at half-time. You always worry in those sort of games that a goal can get teams back into the match but that didn't prove to be the case.

"The winning margin helps with your goal difference and the players confidence and we created plenty of chances and in the end it was comfortable.

"I was disappointed with the Peterborough and Brentford games but there is not a lot wrong, the games take their toll on the players and a lot of them have played most of our matches this season.

"Chris Coyne is a threat from set pieces and he gets involved. I thought he finished it well because it didn't really come to him as he would have liked but I don't mind who scores the goals and who finishes as top scorer as long as we stay top of the league.

"Kevin Nicholls finishes penalties well, it was a nice penalty and he looks a confident when he steps up. I don't think he has missed one since I have been here.

"I wasn't happy with the amount of chances we allowed them, I would prefer them not to have any! We could easily have had six but then they might have come away with two or three, it was an open game.

"People expected us to roll them over because we are at opposite ends of the table but we needed to third goal to be comfortable, even at 2-0 they were still in the game and it is never really safe until the end."
