MONEY: WE'VE COME UP SHORT

Posted on: Mon 03 May 2010

A bitterly disappointed Richard Money admitted that his side came up short in their quest for promotion from the Blue Square Premier after losing 2-0 on aggregate to York City in the Play-Off Semi-Finals.

"I'm disappointed but we've got to hold our hands up and say we've come up short," he said afterwards.

"We've had a good go of it in the second half of the season but not be able to make that final push.

"We've landed up the league's leading goalscorers we haven't scored enough goals against the top sides and that's proved to the be the case this afternoon.

"A lot of teams in this league are well equipped to win games 1-0 and that's something we need to think about when playing for next season."

Trailing from the first leg, the Town boss believed the most damage was done in the first leg at Bootham Crescent.

"I always felt, and I tried to make the players aware without putting too much pressure on them, that we needed to win the first leg," he said.

"To lose the tie at the death was harsh as we played well but it really set the scene for today.

"That said we moved the ball really well in the first half and York were at full stretch and I thought it was only a matter of time before we made the break through.

"Then it's a tough ask once they got in front and then it proved impossible. They got bodies back and were able to deal with set pieces, balls into the box and crosses and fair play to them. But we've just come up short.

"Once the second goal went in I always knew it was going to be difficult but going in at half-time I thought we could go on but that went out the window and the complex if the game changed completely.

"They got nine men behind the ball and made it difficult for us.

"Perhaps the most major disappointment was that, with a big, noisy crowd, was that we couldn't go in front.

"Then we would have seen what we were all about."

COMING UP: Money on the summer and next season.
