MONEY: BRING ON THE PLAY-OFFS

Posted on: Sat 24 Apr 2010

After seeing his side extend their unbeaten run to 14 games with a 1-1 draw with Rushden and Diamonds, Hatters boss Richard Money has called for his side to push their effort levels even higher as they begin their assault on the Blue Square Premier Play-Offs next Thursday at York City.

"I've said to the players we've been in good form but we need to step it up even more over the next 10 days," Money said afterwards.

"We're going into the Play-Offs in good form. We've won 10 and drawn four of the last 14 games which is really pleasing for the players.

"Obviously we would have liked to have finished first, but we're pleased to have finished second.

"We're looking forward to it. We'll have a good recovery Monday, get back into training Tuesday and Wednesday to be ready for the next hurdle.

"To some degree form goes out the window but all four teams are playing with confidence, and, in our case, we're playing well and we're happy with that."

The Town chief was also pleased with the way his team started and finished the game at Nene Park.

"I thought for the first 20 minutes we were excellent and I thought it was similar in the final 20 minutes.

"In the periods in between was a bit scrappybut overall, given the conditions - it was hot out there - it was a real good game that looked at one stage that would be high scoring.

"We challenged Rushden today and we tried to spice things up a bit by playing with the diamond formation which was always in the back of our minds with the personnel we wanted to select.

"It was also in the back of our minds that we could be back playing here on Thursday so we tried something different and make it interesting for the players.

"We felt we needed to give 90 minutes to three players: Janos Kovacs, Rossi Jarvis and Matthew Barnes-Homer.

"They were the first three names on the teamsheet and the formation dictated that.

"There was a lot to play for today with both teams wanting to keep their good records going."
