MONEY: QUALITY AND COMPREHENSIVE

Posted on: Wed 17 Mar 2010

A content Richard Money thought his side fully deserved their 3-1 victory over Kidderminster Harriers to earn a fourth straight victory in the Blue Square Premier.

A double from striker Kevin Gallen and a wonderfully executed goal from Jake Howells were ultimately the difference as Hatters won for the third time in seven days at Kenilworth Road.

Despite Harriers pulling a goal back before half-time to make the score 2-1, Money believed his team were good value for the three points.

"I'm very pleased," he said afterwards. "It's not easy to win three home games in a week.

"And I thought it was fairly comprehensive. There were one or two wobbles but I thought we looked dangerous all night.

"We attacked with gusto and real quality and in the second half it really was comprehensive."

All three Town goals were well worthy of winning any game, and Money was quick to praise both goalscorers on their fine efforts.

"I think Jake's goal was terrific," he said. "And Kevin's second goal was outstanding. Maybe he should have done better with the first but it's gone in the corner.

"But he's deserved his two goals. He was excellent again."

Harriers reduced arrears through James Lawrie's goal three minutes after Gallen had made it 2-0.

And the Hatters chief paid tribute to way Steve Burr's side acquitted themselves just three days after losing 5-1 at home to Stevenage in the FA Trophy.

"I think they played with quality at times," admitted Money. "They tried to pass the ball which was pleasing and they troubled us.

"Our back four couldn't get to grips with [Robbie] Matthews all evening - he plays that role well.

"But we stuck at it, and I think we looked like we always had enough to see the game through."

After four successive victories attention turns to a trip to Ebbsfleet United on Saturday.

And the Town boss is calling on his side to muster one more victory before they sign off a for week without a game.

"We've challenged the players this morning for two big, strong performances this week," he said.

"We have a great determination about getting to 70 points.

"After Saturday we'll have a breather and they deserve it.

"One or two looked a bit legged tonight but we're looking for one massive effort this weekend."

With Stevenage beating Histon the Town remain five points off the top but are now within one point of second-placed Oxford.

A tilt at the title, then perhaps?

"Not interested," Money said. "All I'm interested in is getting points. Let other people worry about the other issues.

"We want to finish with as many points as we can and put as much distance as we can between us and teams below us."

Striker Matthew Barnes-Homer returned to feature for the last five minutes against his former club when replacing Claude Gnakpa.

The ex-Harrier missed the weekend win over Wrexham following the death of his father but returned to Kenilworth Road to a fabulous reception from both sets of supporters.

"It was a terrific reaction from the crowd," his manager said. "Maybe some of them have some empathy with him at last.

"He might have only been on the pitch for a short time but I thought he looked a real player.

"Hopefully he can get back to what he's capable of. He'll be like a new signing for us."

The attendance of 5,908 may have been the second smallest at Kenilworth Road this season but the Town boss thought the home support during the 90 minutes was the best since he'd been at the club.

"I would just like to say that the crowd were much, much more supportive tonight," he said.

"I know it helps when you got 2-0 up but I think there was a general mood in the stadium tonight that they perhaps suddenly realised that they have been a little harsh on the group of late.

"I thought there was a real bond and togetherness between the group and the crowd for the first time I've been here."
