Hatters boss Richard Money believes that the point earned in the 0-0 draw at York City will prove to be a vital one come the end of the season.

After coming under strong pressure from the home side in a second half that saw the Minstermen twice hit the crossbar, the Town manager was delighted with performance of his players in the goalless draw.

"I think we'll look back once the campaign has finished and see how valaube that point was," he said afterwards.

"I thought it was a terrific point and a great result on a night where we could have played better.

"We were excellent in the first half but not so good in the second but I am pleased to have left with a point from what is a difficult place to come."

Money thought that Bootham Crescent pitch - covered in 60 tonnes of sand - played its part in halting the Hatters' passing game in the second period.

"I thought the pitch dictated the way we played," he said. "In the first half we played really well but in the second half as it cut up it was more like Blackpool beach.

"We're a passing team and we want to pass the ball on the floor which we found it difficult to do.

"They came back at us in the second half and made life hard for us so I'm delighted to have come away with a point all things considered."

The point lifts the Hatters into fourth place in the Blue Square Premier following Oxford's last-gasp victory over Rushden & Diamonds.

And the Town chief was left frustrated after being informed by the press of the U's' late win.

"Oxford winning is a disaster," he said. "Why? Because we want to catch them.

"We're quietly and confidently cementing our place in the play-offs but we want automatic promotion. But it's never over until it's over.

"Despite that result I still sense a little bit of disappointment that we've only drawn tonight.

"I guess that shows how far we've come."
