MONEY: WE HAD THE QUALITY

Posted on: Thu 28 Jan 2010

Hatters boss Richard Money paid tribute to his winning team after they dug deep to score twice in the second half to earn all three points at Histon.

Goals from Janos Kovacs and Asa Hall sealed a super second half showing from the Town as they wracked up their third straight league win.

And after a describing Saturday's victory at Gateshead as "rusty", Money was a happier man after the 2-0 success at the Glassworld Stadium

"I told the players I wasn't surprised by what happened on Saturday," he said afterwards.

"When you've had a period of inactivity it takes you a while to get back into it and in the first half it was the same the story.

"It was different tonight for several reasons. We were strong in the first half and in the second half we showed the quality we know we have.

"I said to the players at half-time that we needed to be braver with the ball but to be fair to Histon they put us under pressure in the first half.

"But it's difficult to maintain that pressure and we kept moving the ball and eventually they tired and we began to hurt them.

"In the end we have won convincingly and could have done so by more goals.

"In the second half we gradually gained confidence and gained in quality and hopefully we can take it on from here."

After a goalless first period the Town came out all guns blazing after the break and deservely took the lead when debutant Kovacs put them in front on 52 minutes.

The Hungarian was on hand to head skipper Kevin Nicholls' corner home and Money believes there is much more to come from his new signing.

"I'm pleased for him," he said. "It was his first game for six weeks and there's much more to come.

"He was a cult hero at Chesterfield and a cult hero at Lincoln and we think he can be the same here. He's certainly done his chances the world of good of doing that after tonight."

Another pleasing aspect of the Hatters' success was the return of striker Liam Hatch who enjoyed his first action since 3rd October as he completed 45 minutes after coming on as a half-time substitute for Kevin Gallen.

"He had a big influence on the game," Money said on the Town's number nine. "He hasn't had much training and we've got to nurse him through the next two-to-three weeks because we don't want to re-injury him.

"Kevin said he was feeling his hamstring at half-time and we were thinking about bringing on Jake Howells and putting Tom Craddock up-front but we decided to go for it.

"Liam showed his importance to the team tonight but we musn't get carried away with him because he's still not ready to start."
