MONEY BLAMES BAD DEFENDING
Hatters' manager Richard Money was frustrated with his side's defensive display that ultimately led to their exit from the FA Trophy.
Three goals in the space of half-an-hour from Cambridge strike force Danny Crow and Chris Holroyd meant the Town's involvement in non-league's premier knockout competition ended the first hurdle.
And it was those goals and defending that led to them that disappointed the Money the most.
"You can't defend the way we did in our penalty box," he said afterwards. "They've put three crosses in the box and scored three goals and therein lies the problem.
"Kevin Pilkington's just told me he hasn't had a save to make all afternoon.
"Our defenders struggled to cope with Holroyd and Crow. They've both got movement that is too good for this level.
"I don't think any of our defenders have had dealt with Cambridge well all season.
"If you don't mark men in the box then you're going to be in trouble. A defender's first job is to pick-up the attacker."
With Shane Blackett and Alan White hauled off at half time in favour of strikers Matthew Barnes-Homer and Tom Craddock, the Hatters' second half display was an improvement that pleased the manager.
"The second half was better," Money said. "I asked for a reaction and I was pleased with what I saw.
"I thought we played with a real purpose and drive in the second half and I saw a couple of good things.
"It gave me chance to see Barnes-Homer and Kevin Gallen together as a front two, Craddock on the left and Keith Keane and George Pilkington as a centre-half pairing.
"Tom can give us a threat down the left while I am aware that Keane and Pilkington can play at centre back together and have done well there in the past.
"It means I've seen everything I've needed to see and now we have to refocus ourselves in the league.
"All our league games are vital. Especially when you're Luton Town playing in the Blue Square Premier."
