First Team Coach Kevin Watson was disappointed the Hatters couldn't take their chances as they failed to end their league campaign at Kenilworth Road with victory against Rochdale.

Tom Craddock had put the Town ahead from the penalty spot on 32 minutes but despite creating a number further opportunities they had to land up with a share of the spoils as Lee Rundle's 56th-minute strike earned Dale a draw.

And Watson was frustrated the Hatters' only had the one goal to show for their dominance at half time.

He said: "I thought we were exceptional first half. We passed the ball very well and should have been out of sight before half time.

"We created numerous chances in the first half but in the second half, to be honest, we weren't much of a threat in the second half.

"It was a penalty, he goes up and gets pushed in the back and more often that not you don't see them given but Tom's put it away.

"It was disappointing we couldn't sign off win a win but we asked the players to pass the ball and they did that first half but not so much in the second."

Rochdale came back in the second half to force a draw and Watson said the visitors' change in formation to match the Hatters' 4-4-2 changed the game.

He said: "They matched us up and we forced them to make two substitutions at half time.

"4-4-2 was the obvious chance as we have spoken about trying different forms for 4-4-2. We have to start looking ahead for next season.

"With Michael Spillane and Chris Martin going back to Norwich at the moment we don't know 100 per cent who is staying and I don't think some of the players know what they're doing but they want to play at the highest level possible.

"We were down to bare 17 players and they've gone out there and applied themselves well.

"Since we've been relegated we've not downed tools and that's why we still have 7,000 people watching us. We owe the supporters and the teams fighting for promotion not to chuck it in."
