Have you ever wondered where the top players in this country start their careers as youngsters? The Premier League recently produced a report to show which club initially signed each Premier League player.

If a club had to pay compensation or a transfer fee for a player then they cannot be the player's first club.

This table shows the most productive youth academies in terms of numbers of current Premier League players. Most of the clubs mentioned are either in the Premier League or have been in recent seasons.

Of all the players in the Premier League who began their careers in England 125 started at a current Premier League club compared with 129 from outside the top division in England.

According to the statistics a young player in England is more likely to end up in the Premier League if he begins his career at a club outside it.

Luton Town were especially highlighted by the report as having an exceptional record and we have used this report in our presentation to parents during pre-season.

In a period where a lot of our players are being targeted by the scouts of Premier League clubs it has proven to be a valuable tool in convincing parents that Luton Town is the right place to be.
