TOOMEY TREBLE SEALS WIN OVER SPALDING

Posted on: Mon 02 Aug 2010

Liam Toomey and new signing Dan Walker were instrumental in gaining a young development side a thumping 5-0 victory over Spalding United on Saturday.

Toomey's rich vein of pre-season goalscoring form continued with a hat-trick, whilst Walker, whose registration was confirmed on Saturday morning, scored once and set-up three in the rout at Sir Halley Stewart Field.

After a goalless and even first half, the Town started the brighter of the two teams in the second and 10 minutes after the interval trialist Hegel Nbussi put the visitors ahead.

Then Walker took centre stage, doubling the Hatters' lead when running in behind the Tulips defence to finish well at the near post.

Walker then saw a shot saved that Toomey poked home to make it 3-0 as the Town took complete control.

The deadly duo then combined twice before the final whistle with carbon-copy strikes in which Walker got round the back of the Spalding defence to twice lay on chances for Toomey who obliged with confident finishes.

Squad: Kidd, Deeney, Lacey, Bufano, Carney, Nathaniel, Nbussi, Okas, Bailey, Watkins, Walker, Toomey, Harriott, Patrick, Yamfam, James, Tavernier, Dobson.
