Centre-half Shane Blackett was pleased to get Saturday's disappointing result out of his system with the 3-0 win over a Liverpool XI.
A youthful Reds' outfit arrived at Kenilworth Road for the Hatters first pre-season friendly on home soil, intent on putting on a performance similar to the one they turned in at the weekend.
Whilst Luton were suffering their first setback of their pre-season campaign at the hands of Alfreton, Liverpool's youngsters were beating League 1 Oldham Athletic's first team in the Lancashire Senior Cup .
However, there was to be no repeat against the Hatters as Richard Money's side claimed their fourth win in six matches.
"We have had a pretty tough period with the trip to Portugal followed by five games in ten days but it is all good," the former Peterborough defender Blackett told www.lutontown.co.uk. "You just have to put Saturday down as an off-day and move on.
"If tonight's performance is anything to go by then we can all look forward to the season ahead.
"In the summer you dread pre-season but it's all about getting the hard work done and get the graft done. You have to get yourself into peak fitness ready for the start of the season.
"I think the lads have handled pre-season quite well coming back in good shape and we want to hit the floor running come August 14th."
With home matches still to come against Kilmarnock and a Newcastle United XI in the next seven days gets underway, Blackett feels it's essential that everyone is focused on continuing the hard work from the training ground, and ensuring the improving squad remains injury free in the process.
He added: "Everyone is getting there, apart from Claude and Ed everyone else seems pretty fit and raring to go. With important league and cup games coming up it's about keeping everyone fit now and hopefully we can do that.
"I think the gaffer has added lots of quality to the squad with the players that he has brought in and I think you can see the squad has improved. We've got some pace in and it's always good to have that, now we can push on.
"There is competition for places and I'm happy with that, that's the way football is, that's the way that it has got to be so no complacency slips in. Hopefully that can help us push on and get up this league."
