The Town's senior stars got their pre-season off to a flying start with a comfortable victory over Southern League Midlands outfit Hitchin Town at Top Field.
In a five star show, it was five individual goalscorers who put the Canaries to the sword with two of the Hatters' goals coming from two of their new signings.
Danny Crow, one of four new faces on show, was the man who put the Town ahead on four minutes.
Strike partner Matthew Barnes-Homer raced down the right flank and sent an inch-perfect across flashing across the face of the Hitchin goal that was tapped home at the back post by the former Cambridge striker from close range.
With the Hatters well in command, one became two four minutes later as Crow turned from scorer to supplier.
Andy Drury swept a fantastic ball into the path of Crow who dribbled down the right flank and sent a pass across the face of goal to leave Adam Newton an easy chance to side-foot home.
With the Town well on top, chances continue to fall their way with Adam Murray and impressive trialist Ciaren Toner both going close with the latter coming within a whisker of making it 3-0 on 18 minutes with a shot that went inches the wrong side of the post.
Two minutes later Hitchin had to rely on goalkeeper Bennett to keep the score 2-0 with two fantastic stops, firstly denying Crow his second of the night with a smart stop diving down to his right before blocking a Newton shot from close range with his legs a minute later.
Drury's set-pieces, which had haunted Conference defences last season, were well in evidence, and his vicious left-wing corner on 21 minutes was cleared off the line as the Hatters continued to pile on the pressure.
With Kevin Pilkington enjoying an easy night between the sticks, Hitchin did have the ball in the Town's net on 28 minutes but Bradley Harrison saw his lofted effort chalked off by the flag of the linesman in a rare foray forward by the hosts.
However, that was brief repite for the Canaries as Barnes-Homer twice came close to making it 3-0 in the space of a five minute spell with a header and a powerful shot both stopped by Bennett.
Drury was showing glimpses of quality on the Hatters' right-flank and shortly after a cross of his caused confused in the home defence, he got his name on the scoresheet on the stroke of half-time when he smashed the ball past Bennett from six yards after latching onto Newton's neat pass.
Richard Money made five changes at the interval and his side should have made it 4-0 four minutes into the second period when one of those substitutes, Kevin Gallen, somehow side-footed wide when well-placed after being found by Tom Craddock's cut-back.
Another five substitions followed on the hour mark and six minutes later two of those combined superby that saw the Town come close to scoring again. Adam Watkins, playing on the left of midfield, beat two men before picking out Stefan Bailey who headed straight at Bennett from 12 yards.
Hitchin certainly had upped it in search of a goal with the Town team still trying to get to grips with the number of changes in personnel.
And on 74 minutes the home supporters' patience was rewarded when subsitute Dixon tapped home into an empty net after trialist goalkeeper Metyan Esterhazy had palmed a shot from Mustapha skywards.
The Canaries were still intent on closing the deficit further, but with six minutes left on the clock, the Hatters restored their three goal cushion when, out of nothing, Bailey hit a daisycutter beyond Bennett from 25 yards to make it 4-1.
But the Town weren't finished, and a fifth and final goal arrived to cap a comfortable night's work in injury time when the industrious Watkins fed Gallen in the left-hand channel and the veteran striker did the rest with a cool side-foot finish from eight yards.
Not a bad start to blow away the cobwebs, eh?
It's Bedford Town at the New Eyrie on Saturday. See you then.
See below for minute-by-minute anaylsis.
Final score
Hitchin Town 1 (Dixon 74)
Luton Town 5 (Crow 4, Newton 8, Drury 45, Bailey 84, Gallen 90)
Result from Top Field
FULL-TIME
Hitchin Town 1-5 Luton Town - It's all over here at Top Field and the Town have run out comfortable winners. Check back on lutontown.co.uk later tonight for reaction and a full report. COYH!
90 mins
Hitchin 1-5 HATTERS - It's a five star performance to get the first team's pre-season underway as Gallen finishes superbly past Bennett after more good play from Watkins. Craddock was miles offside but wasn't interfering with play according to the officials.
87 mins - Keep ball now from the Hatters as they press for number five...
85 mins - Just like at Dunstable last night, there's a healthy crowd. Here at Top Field tonight: 878, most of whom are cheering on the Hatters.
84 mins
Hitchin 1-4 HATTERS - The Town restore the three goal advantage. Hitchin fail to clear their lines and the ball drops kindly to Bailey who whacks it goalwards with intent. The ball bounces through a sea of bodies before nestling nicely in the bottom left-hand corner of the net.
82 mins - Two half chances for the hosts as they continue to rally. Apparently the Hitchin players' numbers on the teamsheet don't tally up to who they actually are. Therefore the numbers 12 and 16 have half chances blocked and wide respectively.
80 mins - If I'm being honest, not a lot has happened since Hitchin made it 3-1. Let's hope for a late flurry of goal action.
76 mins - Plenty of youngsters on show for the Town today who have progressed through the ranks at Kenilworth Road. Remember to check you Solyd and the club's official youth development website.
74 mins
GOAL HITCHIN 1-3 Hatters - The Canaries are back in it and are within two goals of the Town. It's two substitutes that combine with Mustapha smashing a shot that Esterhazy pushes skywards and Dixon is on hand to flick the ball home from close range on the volley.
71 mins - 11th change of the night for the Hatters as Taylor Nathaniel enters the fray in place of Toner who receives a generous round of applause.
68 mins - And then there's a chance for the Hatters to make it four. Watkins does well down the left, beats two men before whipping in a delightful cross onto the head of an unmarked Bailey arriving late in the penalty area and plant an effort straight down the throat of Bennett in the home goal. Unlucky.
65 mins - It's been pretty even-steven for the past 10 minutes or so with Hitchin keen to find a way back into this.
62 mins - Esterhazy, Watkins, Poku, Bailey and Lacey on for K. Pilks, Howells, Keane, Newton and Drury. That took two minutes to sort out. Sorry for the delay...
60 mins - Here come the substitions. Let me configure who's going on and off...
58 mins - Chance for the hosts from a set-piece, their first shot at goal of the game after Keane has conceded a free-kick 25 yards from goal. It's Burke for the Canaries who tries his luck with a direct effort which is low and only just off target that had got Pilkington scrambling to his left.
56 mins - The ball is the Hitchin net for the fourth time but Gallen's effort won't count as he is flagged miles offside by the linesman on this near side of the pitch. Still three-zip.
53 mins - Possession football from the Town so far at the start of this half. Gallen goes in with a Hitchin midfield contesting for the ball and is bemused by the ref's decision to give the throw in the Canaries' favour. He isn't happy, as he glares at the official. Some things never change.
49 mins - Chance for 4-0 as the Hatters being the second half like they started the first. Howells slides Craddock in down the left flank and has plenty of options to cross to. He opts for his strike partner Gallen who looks all set to make it four but the veteran striker somehow side-foots wide of the target with the goal gaping.
47 mins - The changes mean it's a back four of Newton, G. Pilks, Blackett and Howells, a midfield of Fred Murray, Keane, Toner and Drury with Craddock and Gallen in tandem in attack.
46 mins - Hitchin get us under way for the second half...but here's the Town team that kick the second half off: K. Pilkington, G. Pilkington, Newton, Blackett, Howells, F. Murray, Keane, Toner, Drury, Craddock, Gallen.
20:45 NO CLAUDE?
He picked up a knock in Portugal and hasn't been risked this evening. He was his usual happy self when the players visited Kenilworth Road for their pre-season meeting before tonight's game.
20:38 READY TO RING THE CHANGES
The second half's XI are ready warming up on the Top Field turf. Thing is there are 12 of them so we're not exactly sure which one is going to be missing out. Matyas Estherhazy in a Hungarian goalkeeper on trial, we've researched. Other likely starters for the second 45 include George Pilkington, Tom Craddock, Kevin Gallen and Shane Blackett. To name four...
HALF-TIME
Hitchin Town 0-3 Luton Town - And that's half-time. Very comfortable for the Richard Money's side so far with three first half goals. Check back in 15 minutes for all the updates and all the substitions no doubt!
45 mins
GOAL! Hitchin 0-3 HATTERS - It has been coming and Drury has got the goal his display has deserves by smashing a right-foot shot through Bennett after taking Newton's pass in his stride. Smiles all round. 3-0.
40 mins - Drury's been impressive down the right for the Hatters so far this evening and he delivers a good cross from the right that causes confusion in the Hitchin six yard box. The Canaries defence can only half clear but Crow thinks the chance is gone, not realising the ball is still loose which enables the hosts to eventually clear.
39 mins - Back come the Hatters though as Crow tries his luck with a lofted effort from the outside of the 18 yard box after seeing Bennett off the line. Unfortunately it lacks the necessary direction and drops wide.
39 mins - As we've said the Canaries have offered little in attack but Fontonelle, the right back, has other ideas and he runs past four Hatters men from his own half and into the box. However, he runs out of puff and after mis-kicking the ball runs free for the Town to clear.
38 mins - Still all the Hatters as Crow attempts to scamper onto a neat throughball by Howells but the ball runs free and into the arms of Bennett.
35 mins - Almost 3-0 as Barnes-Homer runs at the Hitchin defence with pace and power after latching onto Keane's super pass. He could square it to Crow but decides to go alone and belts a shot goalwards that his hacked by Canaries right back Fontonelle
30 mins - Back come the Hatters though and Barnes-Homer warms the hands of Bennett in the home goal with a downward header from Howells' left-wing cross.
28 mins - The ball is the Town goal for the first time this evening but don't worry it's still 2-0. Hitchin break down the right and Bradley Harrison spots Pilkington off his line, however the linesman is on the ball and raises his flag for offside. Some Hatters fans tell the lino he was at least five yards off. The official then sticks up his index finger to indicated how close it was...
25 mins - Some information on Ciaren Toner for you.
23 mins - Just in case you're wondering where Mark Tyler is...he's here, at Top Field.
21 mins - Again, almost 3-0 but we're not quite sure of the detail...a left-wing corner from Drury is headed goalwards and then headed off the line. From our obstructed view in the press area we're not sure who's head it come off and who cleared it. Sorry...
20 mins - More Town dominance and the Canaries have Bennett to thank for two smart saves in the space of a minute to keep the score 2-0. Firstly he sticks out a strong arm diving to his right to keep out Crow's firm shot and then he saves with his legs to deny Newton moments later. It's all good from the visitors so far.
18 mins - Another decent chance for the Hatters to extend their lead. Newton, playing left wing tonight feeds Toner, the trialist with a neat through ball. The Town's number four has a great chance and his eyes light up with the goal staring him in the face. However, home stopper Bennett narrows the angles well and Toner's shot flashes inches the wrong side of the post.
16 mins - For those who want to know how the the Town are lining up as follows: Kev Pilkington in goal; a back four of Ed, White, Keane and Howells, a midfield of Newton, Adam Murray, Toner and Drury with MBH and Crow up top.
13 mins - Still the Hatters threaten - I don't think Kevin Pilkington has had a touch so far. It's another similar move that saw the Town twice score as MBH races down the right, crosses for Newton at the back-post but his header back across goal is volleyed way wide by Adam Murray. Still 2-0.
10 mins - It's been very comfortable for the Town so far and they are more than in control. It took us a while to set-up in and around the press box here so we hadn't got the Hitchin team, well, now we have: Bennett, Fontonelle, Pepper, Smith, Gilbert, Lamacraft, Howell, Lee, Ardile, Harrison, Burke. Subs: Williams, Dixon, Donnelly, Mustapha, Burfield, George, Copping. - Yes that's former Hatter Liam, by the way on the bench for the hosts.
8 mins
GOAL! Hitchin 0-2 HATTERS - Hitchin have hardly had the ball and now find themselves 2-0 down. Drury pings a super pass into the path of Crow who runs down the right, sees Newton at the back post unmarked who has the simple task of side-footing the ball past the Canaries' goalkeeper.
4 mins
GOAL! Hitchin 0-1 HATTERS - It's been all the Town so far and they've made their start count with a goal. MBH drives a pass across the face of goal that is tapped in at the back stick by an unmarked Crow to make it 1-0. Not a bad way to introduce yourself...
2 mins - Comfortable begining for the Town and a chance early doors. Newton finds Howells down the left who delivers a fantastic cross into the box that his headed wide by Drury.
1 min - It's the Town that get the game under way. There's a strong presence of Hatters fans in the crowd seen to see Richard Money's new signings.
