MOLI MAKES IT AN INTERNATIONAL DOUBLE

Posted on: Thu 24 Jun 2010

Former Hatter Matthew Upson's World Cup appearance for England against Slovenia on Wednesday was the first time a player from our youth set-up has played in the finals of the competition.

And the international flavour kept coming on Wednesday when the club received news that 15-year-old striker David Moli, who left Kenilworth Road for Liverpool last season, has been called up to the England Under-17 squad.

Moli's call-up to the U-17 age group means, like he was with the Hatters' youth sides, he will be playing an age group above himself.

He will be a part of Dave Peacock's squad - that contains players from all of England's top clubs - in their friendly tournament campaign in August when they take on Finland, Iceland and Denmark.

Youth Development Officer Gregg Broughton said: "I'm delighted for Dave and I'm pleased that once again our hard work in developing a player of his ability has been recognised.

"To represent your country is fantastic for any footballer.

"To be called-up for the 17s and not the 16s - given he is still 15 - underlines the ability he has.

"Everyone at Luton Town would like to wish Dave all the best in what we hope is a successful career at both domestic and international level."
