Captain Kevin Nicholls has admitted he is not getting too carried away with the release of the Conference fixtures and is instead concentrating on the job in hand of getting the Town back into League 2.

Talking exclusively to lutontown.co.uk the skipper is just hoping the Hatters can get off to a good start to the season and improve on last season's home form.

"Last season we lost at home on the first day to Port Vale but we played them off the park," he said.

"Teams last season would come to Kenilworth Road and play 4-5-1 and we found it difficult to break them down and it will be the same next season.

"Therefore it is important we get off to a good start.

"After we play Wimbledon we've got two home games on the bounce against Mansfield and Gateshead and it's vital we get a good solid start to form the platform for a long season ahead.

"Every week is going to be tough - home and away, Just like it was in League 2."

Despite being disappointed at missing the first four matches of the season through suspension, Nicholls is however glad he will return after a fortnight as four fixtures in the opening two weeks mean he'll be back for the game against Chester City on 22nd September.

"I'm obviously really, really frustrated to miss the game and the first home game of the season but I'm glad the fixtures have fallen Saturday-Tuesday, Saturday-Tuesday so I can get back playing again as soon as possible."
