It's day 39 in our countdown to the season in statistics with our man with the numbers Simon Pitts

39 - Five players have made exactly 39 League appearances for the Hatters. Jim Wilson was the first, between 1948-51, and he scored just once for Luton.

Rodney Fern joined Luton from Leicester City and made his debut in the 1972/73 season. He went on to make 39 League appearances before transferring to Chesterfield. Fern netted five goals during his spell at Kenilworth Road. Graham Jones made his debut on the final day of the 1975/76 season as a 16 year old and made his 39 league appearances over three more seasons before joining Torquay United.

Michael McIndoe, like Jones, came through the ranks at Kenilworth Road and made his debut in the 1998/99 season. McIndoe failed to score in his 49 career appearances for Luton.

Michael Spillane joined the Hatters on loan from Norwich City last season, and featured in all but seven matches in the League campaign. He came off the bench for four of these appearances, and netted three goals in those League appearances. Spillane made a further 10 Cup appearances, and netted in the FA Cup defeat at Southend United.

39 - Three players have made 39 career appearances during their time at Kenilworth Road. Andy Dibble made 31 League and eight Cup appearances, including that famous trip to Wembley in 1988. Dibble had two spells at Luton, having made his debut on the opening day of the 1984/85 season, he made 36 appearances in four seasons before joining Manchester City. Dibble returned for a brief spell in 1997/98 where he made a further three appearances.

Paul Furlong joined the Hatters from Queens Park Rangers and only featured during the 2007/08 before moving on to Southend United. Furlong netted 12 goals in his 39 appearances for the Hatters.

Kurt Nogan, another of those coming through from the Youth team, scored on his debut.....at Anfield! Kingsley Black had made it 1-1 on 70 minutes, and just a few minutes later Nogan put Luton into the lead. The celebrations were short lived though as Steve Nicol equalised for the home side.

39 - No player has scored exactly 39 League goals, or indeed 39 career goals for the Hatters!

39 - The Hatters have finished five league seasons on 39 points. The first time was in 1927/28 when they won 16, drew seven and lost 19 matches. Luton finished 13th in Division 3 South. Five years later and they repeated this points tally with just 13 draws and 13 defeats, and 14th as a final placing. The first post war season of 1946/47 saw Luton in Division Two, and they finished 13th with the 16 and seven record as they had in 1927/28. 13th was becoming a regular finishing position with 39 points as it happened again in 1960/61 and 1961/62! The latter season saw 17 victories and just five draws!

39 - Is the longest unbeaten run of League matches at home. It started on 26th September 1925 with a 1-0 win over Bristol Rovers and was ended by Norwich City on August 29th 1927 with a 3-1 win. There were 26 wins and 13 draws during this run. Luton actually only lost one home game in 1925/26, on 14th September losing to Reading 1-0, and they were then unbeaten for the entire 1926/27 season. The Norwich defeat actually came on the opening day of the following season, and then they also lost to Brighon a few days later! After a defeat to QPR on 5th November, Luton remained unbeaten at home for the remaining 15 league games, and the first 19 home games of the following season before eventually losing the final two home games!
