It is now just six weeks and six days until the Hatters kick-off their first ever campaign in the Conference - or 48 days in simpler terms!

Today our man with the stats, Simon Pitts, has come up with six statistics based around the number 48. Enjoy...

48 - Three players have made exactly 48 League appearances for Luton. Wilf Crompton featured for the Hatters in the 1930's whilst Ted Duggan scored 20 goals in the 1940's. Ian Buxton played for two seasons, 1967-69 and this included being part of the Fourth Division Championship winning side in 1968.

48 - The most number of FA Cup appearances for Luton is held by Bob Morton, 12 appearances clear of second place Mal Donaghy.

48 - Five players have made exactly 48 appearances for the Hatters. David Carr in the 1970's, John Collins for two seasons 1969-71, Alan Harper in 1993/94, John Shankly (whose final game for Luton was a 7-0 defeat at Millwall in December 1925!), and Jackie Slicer 1930-32.

48 - The number of League goals scored by Bob Morton, from a Club record 495 appearances. Morton scored his first goal against Coventry City on the final day of the 1948/49 season, and his last goal came in a 1-1 draw at Walsall in April 1963.

48 - Total Luton goals scored by Jimmy Husband after his transfer from Everton. It was lucky 13 for Husband as he netted his first of two Luton hat-tricks on his 13th League start against Orient in March 1974. He scored his second hat trick against Charlton in September 1977 in a 7-1 victory, when he actually netted four times, including a penalty.

48 - Luton have ended four seasons on 48 points, all of these under the two points for a win system. In 1953/54 Luton won 18 matches and drew 12, a feat repeated in 1980/81 which was the last season before a win became worth three points. In 1975/76 Luton won 19 matches and drew 10, whereas a year later they finished with 21 victories and just six draws from their 42 matches.
