50 DAYS TO GO!
Today marks the start of our countdown on lutontown.co.uk until the start of the Hatters' first season in the Blue Square Premier.
Our man with the stats - Simon Pitts - has come up with relevant statistics for every day until the campaign kicks off on 8th August. Enjoy!
50 - Billy McDerment is the only Luton player to have made exactly 50 appearances for Luton. McDerment played during 1967/69. His only goal for Luton came in a 1-1 draw at Torquay in April 1969.
50 - Three players have made exactly 50 league appearances for Luton. Alan Daniel featured for the Hatters from 1958-1963, and although he only scored three goals for Luton, two of these came in his last two appearances! Brian Lewis scored 22 goals in his 50 League appearances, with a further three goals coming in nine cup appearances. Sam Parkin, released this summer, made exactly 50 League appearances after signing from Ipswich in 2006. Parkin scored 10 league goals from 34 starts and 16 substitute appearances.
50 - No player has scored exactly 50 league goals for Luton, nor has a player scored exactly 50 career goals for Luton!
50 - Luton achieved 50 points, when it was two points for a win, in 1934/35 and 1973/74. In both seasons Luton won 19 and drew 12 matches and just 11 defeats. In 1934/35 50 points was enough for 4th place in Division 3 South, whereas 39 years later Luton gained promotion to the top flight as runners up in Division Two.
* The number of days in this countdown is subject to change if the Hatters are featured on live television on Friday 7th August.
