BURGESS BECOMES SIGNING NO.1

Posted on: Tue 26 May 2009

Hatters manager Mick Harford has made his first signing of the summer with the capture of midfielder Andy Burgess.

Burgess, 27, was released by Rushden & Diamonds at the end of the season which was his second-spell at Nene Park after originally leaving in 2006 to join Oxford United.

The midfielder - a self-confessed Town fan - pens a two-year contract at Kenilworth Road - subject to approval from the football authorities.

He made 86 appearances for the Diamonds in his second spell scoring eight goals in a career that includes Conference and League 2 titles with the Northamptonshire outfit.

Burgess has also finished second in the Conference while at the Kassam Stadium in 2007, so the Bedford-born man has plenty of experience at non-league level.

On his newest recruit Harford said: "Andy has got the experience of the Conference, he's won the title with Rushden and played 50 games for them this season.

"I went to watch Rushden against Woking and he was one of the best players on the pitch.

"He has a great range of passing, short and long, and he'll come here with the experience we need to play in this division.

"He's a big Luton fan and his family have a big affinity with the club.

"I know when he plays he'll run that extra yard for the Football Club."

Coming soon on lutontown.co.uk, we catch-up with Andy on his dream move to Kenilworth Road.
