HATTERS SIGN TRIO

Posted on: Thu 15 Jan 2009

Luton Town have completed the signing of Nigerian striker Sunday-Akanni Wasiu on a month's loan from Colchester United.

The 24-year-old scored twice in 13 appearances during his spell with the U's having joined the League One side last summer from St Albans City.

A quick and powerful forward, Wasiu played at Kenilworth Road during the Hatters' 1-0 win over Colchester in the area semi-final of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy in December. Commonly referred to as Sunday, he had spells playing in Poland and Lithuania before joining St Albans.

Sunday's arrival completes a busy week of transfer activity at Kenilworth Road following the signing of Kevin Gallen for the rest of the season and the extension of Conrad Logan's loan spell for a further month.

The last few days have also seen Wayne Andrews leave the club after his short term contract expired and Sam Parkin extend his loan stay at Leyton Orient.

Hatters manager Mick Harford revealed he tried to sign Sunday in the summer before he made the move to Essex.

"We tried to bring him in over the summer and he did well pre-season for Colchester and played against us," said the manager.

"Unfortunately Geraint Williams got there before us and he went onto to do really well there.

"Geraint left and Paul Lambert has come in and I'm delighted he's become available as we'd always retained an interest in him."

And Harford believes the striker will give his side an extra dimension in attack.

He said: "He's a big, strong, quick and passionate lad with a real desire and hunger about him which we like.

"With all the strikers we've got at the club at the moment he offers something a bit different."

The new signing goes straight into the Town squad for Saturday's trip to Darlington.

He will wear squad number 12.
