Luton Town's League 2 clash against Chester has been re-arranged for Tuesday 13th January 2009.

Following the postponement of last Saturday's league fixture at Chester City due to a frozen pitch, Chester City offered next Tuesday 13th as the new date for the re-arranged fixture.

Luton Town initially rejected this request on the grounds of the possibility of the re-arranged match not going ahead due to the continuing inclement weather and also the amount of travelling then expected of the team, with the away match at Darlington on Saturday 17th January, and the effects both physically on the players and financially on the club.

With the vital importance of all matches at this time, we felt that by playing the game on this date, it potentially placed our team at a competitive disadvantage.

There was also the short notice to Luton supporters to take into account, many of whom had already set off for the original game before it was called off. Luton supporters have travelled in large numbers all season and to expect them to make another long distance midweek journey at such short notice, especially with the present economic climate, was unacceptable as there was not sufficient time to plan the trip nor get the time off work.

Bearing all this in mind the club requested that the match be played in February. Subsequently, Chester City appealed to The Football League on the grounds of being the home team and the need for revenue, who agreed that the match should be scheduled for Tuesday 13th January with a 7.45 p.m. kick off.

As ever Luton Town will take this on the chin and come out fighting against Chester on Tuesday 13th January as we seek to move three points closer to safety.

As a concequence this means our home reserve match against Stevenage Borough, due to be played on the same day, has been postponed.
