NO INS OR OUTS ON DEADLINE DAY
The closure of the transfer window brought no further changes at Luton Town last night. Despite attempts to add to the squad the Hatters also resisted offers for two players as they failed to meet the Club's valuations of players.
Town manager Mick Harford said, "We had a few options to bring in but we refused to compromise our position. If a decent offer for a player came in that was beneficial for Luton Town we would have taken the opportunity to reinvest in the squad, however with the budgetary restrictions imposed on us it was impossible to improve the squad with the offers we had. Luton Town won't be bullied by anyone into making decisions unless it has a definite value for the Club."
As with all clubs exiting administration, the Hatters' transfer activities will be closely monitored by the Football authorities to ensure that the Club works within its budget.
Luton Town Managing Director, Gary Sweet welcomed such scrutiny claiming, "This football club will live or die based upon our capability on strict management and control of our player budget. We have already been successful in reducing ongoing salary budgets by almost two thirds over the summer whilst giving Mick sufficient support to improve the squad and maximise our chances of survival.
Gary continued, "Ultimately, the Football League is imposing exactly the same stringent controls on our budgets as we have ourselves. Whilst this may be restrictive in certain ways we will always ensure that an appropriate balance will exist between sound financial management and investment into the squad."
One item of good news however, the Club agreed a deal to extend the loan of winger Tristan Plummer for another month from Championship side Bristol City subject to Football League approval. Plummer has impressed during his first month with the Hatters making his league and cup debut, as well as netting his first senior goal.
Town boss Mick Harford also hopes to pursue other loan transfer targets after 8th September when the emergency loan window opens.
