Don Hutchison, the Luton player released at the end of last season, is supporting the Hatters this season by sponsoring two youth players.

Gary Sweet, md of Luton Town was delighted and commented, "This is a truly amazing gesture by Don. For a player to turn around and refuse his final pay packet and instead ask to sponsor a youth player is unheard of. This shows the type of man that Don is, and what football means to him.

"I am very proud that Don has decided to sponsor a couple of Luton youngsters. When Don suggested it I was a bit taken aback I must say - this shows not only what a true professional Don is, but that his generosity is unique in the modern game."

Hutchison will be sponsoring Luton youngsters Scott Sinclair and Jake Howells for the entire season. These two players are developing a reputation as ones to watch for the future. Luton manager Mick Harford has shown that he will always give players a chance if they earn it and so the youth players know that they have a target to aim for.

Every penny counts for Luton Town who exited administration last week. Docked a record breaking 30 points in the summer for mismanagement by the previous owners, the sponsorship by Hutchison will come as welcome good news. The Hatters have a long list of developing excellent youth talent with £10m Curtis Davies being the most recent high profile Luton old boy to make it to the top.

Hutchison spent the 07/08 season playing for Luton Town in both midfield and defensive roles. However, the points deductions given to the club became too much of a hurdle to jump and the club were relegated. Many supporters will remember Hutchison for his towering performance at his former club Liverpool in the FA Cup. With nearly 7000 Luton fans out-singing the famous Kop end, Hutchinson gave a commanding performance that saw the Hatters nearly reach half time all square. His performance in that game was the highlight of his stint at Luton, and proved to Luton fans that even though he was on aging legs, his mind was as sharp as ever as his Herculean performance lifted the whole team and the fans.

Before joining Luton Town, the six-foot Scottish international had a glittering career playing for Liverpool, Everton, West Ham and Sunderland as well as gaining 26 international caps. Now, with the 37 year old approaching the twilight of his career, it is very fitting that he has offered to sponsor emerging youth talent.

Hutchison said, "I've been very lucky in my career - I've played for some wonderful clubs and played with, and against, the world's best. I wanted to give some youngsters a helping hand, so with Luton being committed to developing youth talent it seemed obvious to support them. Scott and Jake are great lads just starting out in football. They have loads to learn, but hopefully my sponsorship will get them off to a flying start. I wish them all the best and I want them to keep their feet on the ground and learn well - if they do that, the world of football is their oyster and they will never look back."

Sweet concluded, "Don, more than most, knows the dire times Luton has just come through. His time at Luton, with all the unrest, will not form part of his most treasured memories in football I'm sure. No matter how bad it got though, he was completely professional and always gave 110%. This massive gesture is a fantastic boost to the youth players and we are truly in Don's debt. I have the utmost respect for Don, his record and his professionalism. By sponsoring these players, the fans will see how a truly great footballer repays the sport, as well as seeing the mans heart. He is always welcome at Luton Town - he has proved he is one of the Luton family."
