LTFC2020 LTD PRESS RELEASE
No rest until justice is served.
We have now been able to take stock of the decision by the Football Association to fine the club and dock ten points next season. When the statement was announced we found ourselves in a cold sweat. Silent. Stunned. Shocked. Unable to find any logic, reasoning and thought behind the decision. Unable to come to terms with the sheer severity of the sanction.
The punishment given to us, for 15 charges of misconduct perpetrated by the former directors of Luton Town, is extreme to say the least. A completely inequitable punishment on the people and fans who are proven to have had nothing to do with these actions; actions undertaken by people who have not been associated with the club for many months, and have no association whatsoever to LTFC2020 Ltd. It is impossible to see how this incredible punishment fits the crime, especially as the FA notes in its statement that these issues were bought to the attention of the FA by an employee of the club itself.
This is not just an issue for Luton Town, but for the wider football community. To punish the very people who exposed the irregular payments in the first place is detrimental to an honest business framework. This penalty will discourage football employees across the land to use the FA's 'Whistleblower' service for fear of risk to jobs, fans and club. We fail to see how this achieves their stated aim of cleaning up football.
We would urge the FA to focus their efforts on ensuring that fit and proper people are approved to run clubs and that if anyone with a desire to be in a position of power within football, that you accept that penalties can be applied to you irrespective of whether you are still in the game or not.
Yesterday, we took extensive advice from a number of sources and planned our future actions. We have officially requested justification from the FA for the sanctions that they have imposed upon us, and when we have considered their response, we will look to appeal within their 14-day deadline.
We have also spent significant time ensuring that our plight is publicised through all channels possible. We urge all fans to let their views be known to the national and local media via email, letters and phone calls. We must show the sporting community how unjust these sanctions are, the depth of feeling, and that we will keep our plight at the top of the agenda until justice is served properly and proportionately.
Finally we would like to make it completely clear that we have absolutely no intention of accepting any help or 'advice' from former directors who have bought our club to its knees and our lowest ebb in our 123 year history. We totally disassociate ourselves and the club from any statements made by them and we will never enter into any debate with them.
Everyone at the club is working tirelessly behind the scenes with a range of excellent advisors and big hitters from the football world. We will not give up our fight for justice. A justice that recognises a proportionate punishment for the crimes committed. We are immensely proud of the response of our fans and we will not rest until we get the outcome you deserve. We are immensely proud to represent you and your club. We have had to fight all the way during the past six months, from a position that many thought was hopeless. Together we have proved many people wrong and together we will prove again that honesty and transparency are values that we will not relinquish, no matter what obstacles are placed in our path.
United we stand. United we will prevail. United we will regain our pride.
