Luton travel to the City Ground on Saturday afternoon to fulfil one of the matches that have spent most of the season looking forward to. Trips to play Forest and take on Leeds at Elland Road were the ones that most players and fans looked for when the fixtures were first announced back in June. Sadly for the Hatters players making the trip, they had hoped they would be competing at the same end of the table as their opposition but events in recent months have transpired against that.

The message though from the dressing room has been clear for some weeks, the focus has only been on what they can affect on the pitch and that the recent part of this season has been geared towards preparing for the new campaign, particularly after last week's defeat at the hands of Brighton confirmed Luton's relegation.

"Both Leeds and Forest are decent grounds to go to and for any side to attract 20,000 every week at this level is fantastic," explained Steve Robinson. "It will be nice for the players to taste that atmosphere, even if it is just for 90 minutes.

"I am sure it will be a good game, both teams like to get the ball down and play football the right way and they will be coming at us because they will still be hoping to go up automatically.

"It is a big game and it is probably the best thing for us, to have a game like this so soon after the relegation because it will be a lift for everyone to play in a match like this while the pressure is no longer on us.

"Teams like Forest are too big to be in this division however they have got to prove that and get back to where they belong and for us, it will be a taste of what we are leaving behind. We want to be back in League 1 as soon as possible and this will be a match we will reflect on next season as an incentive to bounce back."

Robinson has been a virtual spectator in recent weeks, restricted to cameo roles form the bench because of the form of Matthew Spring and Stephen O'Leary in the centre of the park but he accepts that waiting for your chance to impress is part of being a professional footballer.

The Northern Ireland international explained: "The lads have done okay, the performances have been good, it is just the results that we have been without. Stephen O'Leary has done well since coming into the side, I know the manager wants to use the opportunity to give the younger players some games and experience and it is up to me to do as much as I can when I do come on and give him something to think about for the next match."

"Relegation has been on the cards for some time now because we have been so far adrift of safety and in a way the pressure will be off because the results can't alter anything for us now but it is important we use the remaining games of this season to re-build for next year.

"We want to finish the season as strongly as we can, ending on a positive note and to get people behind us for when we come back next season, We want to give the fans something to look forward to over the summer."
