CLUB STATEMENT
Brendan Guilfoyle, the administrator for Luton Town, announced today that no players had been transferred from the football club at the end of the transfer window.
He stated that preferred bidder, LTFC2020, had agreed to make monies available to the Club to ensure that players who wanted to stay at he Club could do so.
Mr Guilfoyle said "This further injection of cash meant I was not in a position where I had to sell any players. Earlier in the transfer window before a preferred bidder was announced, I had to ensure the future of the Club to the end of the season and hence the need to sell two players.
"However, since LTFC2020 became preferred bidders they have made significant monies available to me so the pressure was off. Of course, if a player wanted to leave, or we received a great offer for a player, then we would have allowed the player to decide his own future."
He went on: "We did receive offers for three players but we were pleased that the players concerned decided to commit their futures to the Club. However, we must remember that in the longer term, the salary bill at the Club is clearly unsustainable so there will have to be changes, but this is for LTFC2020 to decide as part of their plan to ensure financial stability once they take control of the Club."
On the status of the sale of the Club, Mr Guilfoyle said "Everything is progressing very well and ahead of schedule. However, we must follow the correct legal process with creditors and the Football League so it will still be some weeks before LTFC2020 take ownership of the Club."
The transfer window and administration of the Club have led to a great deal of uncertainty amongst players, staff and fans. Mr Guilfoyle said: "Now that January is over I can, together with LTFC2020, concentrate on finalising the sale of the Club. This allows the manager, players and fans to forget speculation and concentrate on moving up the league table."
