Luton boss Kevin Blackwell was a proud man after watching his side secure a hugely important 1-0 win over Southend.

After going into administration on Thursday afternoon, Luton showed the character to move off the foot of the table, just 48 hours after dropping into that position following a ten point deduction.

Calvin Andrew scored the only goal of the game, heading home into an unguarded net with just 16 minutes remaining.

And Blackwell saluted his players, staff and supporters for playing their role in helping the Club gain a vital victory.

"I'm proud of the players. It's been an unbelievable seven days to go from one crises to go another with the FA to administration.

"I don't think anyone can say the players didn't show heart, passion and commitment for a Club that needs a lot of it right now.

"I have to thank the fans - I thought they were fantastic today. I'm glad we sent them home happy, because they have deserved it. It just shows that there is some fight at Luton Town.

"I made some comments a few weeks ago about what I was told and certain fans took exception to that. I now have to apologies because I didn't
know all of the facts as they have now transpired.

"But the Club has now got to go forward. Luton are too good to go down, but now we've got to earn the right to stay up.

"I keep going on about a negative atmosphere, but I'm hoping now it can be a positive one. Credit has to go to the players today because they
have had to live under massive pressure and will continue to do so for the next two or three months."

"When you look at some of the players when they come in, some of them bring in their young kids, and you know they are playing for their
jobs.

"But ever since I have come to the Club the lads have been terrific. I came at the back end of last season, when we hadn't won a game for god
knows how long and we had to try and restructure things.

"However the one thing that hasn't changed is the heart and commitment from the players. I don't think we have had the rub of the green,
certainly away from home, but our home record has been second-to-none, so we have turned that around."

Meanwhile, Blackwell gave particular praise to striker Calvin Andrew and goalkeeper Dean Brill, both of whom where Luton heroes.

"We keep talking about Calvin. He still has a lot to learn, but he can still be anything he wants to be. He is quick and strong, but he needs
to be more forceful in the box, we know that. But it was a good brave header for the goal.

"As for Brilly, he has listened to what has been said to him and it has paid dividends. He did well throughout and he has carried out the
goods. I am really pleased for Brilly."

Concerning the week events, Blackwell admits he has felt disappointed and let down, but has vowed to carry on his his job at Kenilworth Road.

"Somone has pulled the plug somewhere because the money has gone. I don't know what has happened. I feel deceived. People know who they are and they know what they have told me and certain things haven't come to fruition.

"I hope that this Club can go forward. I was told certain things so you make your decision and certain comments about what you have been told.

"You are then subsequently told that the facts are not true. It means that when you make a mistake, and I made one or two comments that
supporters didn't like, you have to be big enough to say you got it wrong and I did on that occasion.

"All I want is what is best for Luton Town Football Club and I just couldn't understand why there was so much negativity from everybody,
but now I know why."
