CENTRE-HALF TALKS CONTINUE

Posted on: Mon 13 Aug 2007

Luton's search for a central-defender continues with Kevin Blackwell holding talks with a player at Kenilworth Road this afternoon

The Hatters boss has made it his top priority with Chris Coyne and Chris Perry the only recognised central defenders at the Club.

And Blackwell is continuing to search for a goalkeeper although his intended target, from a higher division, is attracting interest from other clubs.

However Blackwell is confident he will secure the services of both his intended targets as the closure of the transfer window looms ever closer.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference before Tuesday's Carling Cup game against Dagenham, Blackwell confirmed: "We are speaking to a centre-half this afternoon. Hopefully we can agree something and if we can people will know about it tomorrow.

"We are a step closer to getting a goalkeeper. We are looking for someone from the top divisions so therefore, with the transfer deadline looming, it would help if it would come tomorrow.

"However because there is interest from people from the higher leagues it is making it a bit difficult to conclude it.

"There are one or two players I want to bring in and we are not just going to sit back. If I can get a deal done, then I will do it."

So as the search goes on to bring players into the club, Blackwell revealed that one player was on his way from Kenilworth Road with Kevin Foley looking set to complete a move to Wolves.

"There has been a bit of interest in Kevin and I had to cover my bases, which is why I brought in Richard Jackson last week.

"It was a case that if the offer was right then we would talk to them.

"I had to prepare myself for losing Kevin, and Wolves were very adamant that they wanted him."

Intentions now turn to Tuesday's Carling Cup fixture with Dagenham and Blackwell has revealed that he picked up no fresh injuries from Saturday's win over Hartlepool.

But he stressed that the Carling Cup is serious business for his team this season and he knows how difficult a trip to Dagenham & Redbridge will be.

"The Carling Cup is very high in my priorities. It is another game that we want to win. The priority is always the next game.

"We are going with a very strong team. It is a match we want to win and get our name into the next round of the competition."
